1. Asteroid Bennu 

Current Context: Recently, a capsule containing 2 ounces of rocky material from the "potentially hazardous" asteroid Bennu has landed safely on 24th September, 2023 in the Utah desert after a seven-year mission in space.

Key Points:

• After years of anticipation and hard work by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification and Security–Regolith Explorer) team, a capsule of rocks and dust collected from asteroid Bennu finally is on Earth.

• Within an hour and a half, the capsule was transported by helicopter to a temporary clean room set up in a hangar on the training range, where it now is connected to a continuous flow of nitrogen.

• Getting the sample under a “nitrogen purge,” as scientists call it, was one of the OSIRIS-REx team’s most critical tasks.

• The returned samples collected from Bennu will help scientists worldwide make discoveries to better understand planet formation and the origin of organics and water that led to life on Earth, as well as benefit all of humanity by learning more about potentially hazardous asteroids.

2. Mt. Semeru Volcano 

Current context: The Semeru volcano in Indonesia's East Java province erupted on 22nd September, 2023.

Key Points:

• The volcano's eruption spewed a column of thick, grey ash towards the southeast and south.

• Semeru volcano, as high as 3,676 meters above sea level, remained in the third danger level, below the highest level of IV.

• Its eruption in December 2021 caused tens of thousands of people to flee home and claimed more than 50 lives.

• Recent Erupted volcano in Indonesia- Mt. Sinabung, Merapi volcano.
