Before 2025 yes was the 2010 no: SC had rejected 100-metre definition of Aravallis

In stark contrast to its order last month, the Supreme Court had rejected the state of Rajasthan's 100-metre definition for Aravallis 15 years ago. The court had in 2010 ordered a survey by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) which shall "not be confined to peaks/parts of hills above 100 metres, from the ground level".

MGNREGA to G Ram G: How a new flashpoint may shape BJP vs Gandhi family row

As the curtain comes down on 2025, the BJP's battle with the Congress-led Opposition has flared up in the wake of the government's move to replace the two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act or MGNREGA with Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) or VB-GRAM G Act.

5.

When Vinod Kumar Shukla opened a window in my classroom

Shukla has said elsewhere how 'Window' is a deeply autobiographical novel.

Would they glimpse Raghuvar Prasad in this 80-something-year-old? Or, was it simply extending the kind of melodrama my class of humanities-adjacent-s like to wallow in?

6.

For society's sake, we must ask if God exists

Let us not forget that the 'real issues about religions and religiosity' rest on the bedrock of faith in supernatural power, which shapes our destiny. Many rationalists and agnostics have been hesitant to challenge the foundations of faith-based arguments.

7.

The twilight of deliberation: When Parliament becomes a rubber stamp

The winter air in New Delhi is not just thick with smog; it is increasingly heavy with the malodorous scent of a decaying parliamentary culture. The recently concluded Winter Session of Parliament has not merely been a display of legislative efficiency, as the treasury benches claim, but a dismaying masterclass in the systematic dismantling of our deliberative democracy. With the passage of high-stakes legislation - most notably the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Bill, the SHANTI (Nuclear Energy) Bill, and the Viksit Bharat-G RAM G Bill (the purported successor to the landmark MGNREGA) - the government has once again demonstrated its preference for the blunt instrument of a legislative majority over the fine-tuned machinery of parliamentary consultation.

8.

Claims about destruction of Aravalli hills alarmist

The judgment makes protection more precise, enforceable and science-based. By focusing on surveillance with drones, CCTVS, weighbridges, and task forces, it ensures strong enforcement.
