यह सर्वविदित है कि यूपीएससी (मुख्य परीक्षा) में हिंदी और अंग्रेजी दोनों माध्यम के अभ्यर्थियों में सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय व अंकदायी वैकल्पिक विषयों में से एक है- ‘हिंदी साहित्य'। इस विषय ने हिंदी माध्यम में न केवल टॉपर्स दिए हैं बल्कि लगातार प्रत्येक वर्ष अच्छे अंक भी दिए हैं। इसका सिलेबस बेहद सरल, सहज और सुरक्षित है जिसे किसी भी पृष्ठभूमि का अभ्यर्थी तैयार कर सकता है। यह विषय उन छात्रों के लिए अच्छा माना जाता है जिनकी हिंदी भाषा पर अच्छी पकड़ हो, पढ़ने-लिखने में रुचि हो और साहित्यिक विश्लेषण करना पसंद हो। वैसे विद्यार्थी जो सामान्य अध्ययन के पेपर अंग्रेजी में देना चाहते हैं वो भी हिंदी सहित्य वैकल्पिक विषय के चुनाव कर सकते है I हिंदी माध्यम में भाषा पर जिनकी अच्छी पकड़ हैं उनलोगों के लिए ये काफी अंक दायी होता हैं साथही भाषा और साहित्य के कारण निबंध ( 250 अंक ) में भी काफी सहायक हैं I हिंदी साहित्य optional के दो पेपर होते हैं और दोनों 250-250 अंकों का होता हैं
